Let’s spread solidarity virus all over

Fruits of solidarity is an alternative network between productive collaborative ventures in Greece and citizens’ associations in Europe.

We came together in 2015 under the pressure of the economic and social crisis, having confidence in Social Solidarity Economy and in the potentialities of the fair & solidarity trade. For us, the exchange of products that have been produced and distributed in solidarity and an ethical way, consists an interaction, a strong bond between groups of citizens who share the common vision of social justice.

For us, solidarity is the bond that unites all people who strive for more democracy, equity and social rights.

Furthermore, as collective initiatives in the SSE we also understand the practical side of solidarity. Since 2015 we have been collaborating with the agricultural cooperative Modousa in Lesvos to support the synergies and job creation in local economy. Lesvos is an island which is dealing with the biggest challenge, the one of welcoming thousands of displaced refugees and migrants.

At the same time, we have supported self-organized refugee and migrant support structures through the surplus of our work, because we firmly believe that locals and immigrants can live together, work together. We are convinced that it is our duty to support our weaker neighbours.

Nowadays we face Covid-19 pandemic and “while a curfew is imposed throughout the country in order to limit and control the pandemic, tens of thousands of people remain stacked in the reception centers of the Greek islands. Living conditions are poor and compliance with personal hygiene rules and protection measures is simply impossible” (Avaaz petition)

Being collectives with economic and social activity in areas where residents face tremendous challenges, we feel the need to say:

• Our only enemy is the war
• We oppose to policies that exterminate local communities and displaced people
• Evacuate island hot spots immediately – Rent empty tourist accommodation and houses for refugees
